SOLON

Solon, Iowa is in Johnson County about 15 minutes north of Iowa City.  The population is about 1,500 people.  Residents of Solon can enjoy living in a smaller community with access to larger cities.  Solon has an outstanding local school district, and has become a popular community to live in.

At Lake Macbride State Park you can enjoy cooling off at a designated beach, rent boats for leisurely rides or fishing, or soak in the beautiful atmosphere while walking the trails.  The campsites are a great place to relax and enjoy the Iowa summers.

The Solon Community School District is the home of the Spartans.  The staff believes that, "as each child progresses along his/her continuum of learning, he/she must build the capacity for understanding...each child must understand what has been learned and be able to apply that knowledge effecitively to future situations."  One main goal of the Solon Community School District is to prepare students with the skills that are necessary to contribute to the increasing needs of society.

Over a two day celebration during the summer, some 25,000 visitors wander through Main Street in downtown Solon and enjoy a wide variety of music and entertainment.  Solon Beef Days has been around for over 35 years and offers a family friendly celebration all free of charge!  Parades, carnivals, an art walk, concerts and much more can be enjoyed during this great weekend.  The Solon Beef Days Committee recently began a scholarship program for high school graduates who are attending secondary schooling.
