WEST BRANCH

West Branch, Iowa is located in Johnson County about 10 miles east of Iowa City.  West Branch has a population of about 2,300 people.  With the home of Herbert Hoover, the United States' 31st President and 14 historical buildings named on the Historical Registry, West Branch is full of history and the community prides itself in cultural heritage.



President Herbert Hoover was born in West Branch in 1874. The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum was dedicated here by President Harry Truman, in 1962. The Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, which includes the Library-Museum, the Hoover Birthplace Cottage and the gravesite of the President bring in many visitors each year.

West Branch offers an elementary, middle, and high school and is home of the West Branch Bears.  The enrollment is about 800 students per year.  The West Branch Community School District has designed a 5 year plan to increase skills in the areas of math, science and reading.  The plan also addresses the improvement of their technological hardware and software.  The West Branch Community School District is a collaborative partnership between staff, students, family and community to meet the needs of everyone involved!
