Coralville, Iowa is located just minutes from downtown Iowa City. In 1866, remains of a coral formation were discovered in this area that is west of Iowa City. The coral indicated that the region was perhaps an ocean 380 million years ago. The city that grew up around this formation came to be known as Coralville. One of the Iowa's fastest-growing towns, Coralville has most recently been characterized for its new housing subdivisions and commercial development.
There are a multitude of recreational activities offered at Coralville Lake for all seasons of the year. During the summer enjoy the sandy beach, walking and biking trails, boating, frisbee golf, and the picnic and camping facilities. The lake offers 5,000 acres of space for leisure boating and water skiing. During the winter enjoy the snowmobile trails that run throughout Johnson County and are available at Sandy Beach ATV area and Sugar Bottom Recreation area. There are also cross country ski trails located at Squire Point. "The Res" is a popular destination and has something for everyone!
Coralville is centrally located with easy accessibility to other areas in the Iowa City area. The city of Coralville offers public bus transportation to Iowa City and just recently, North Liberty. The Coralridge Mall which opened in 1998, has more than 100 stores and is the largest shopping center in the area.
The Coralville Recreation Center is a 72,000 square foot facility that is the heart of recreation programming. Recreation Administration offices are located in the Recreation Center and many classes take place here. The Recreation Center serves over 90,000 visitors per year and 7500+ children participate in youth recreation programs. There are organized activities throughout the year for children of all ages and even activities for adults. Coralville also has a newly renovated Aquatic Center equipped with an indoor and outdoor pool and two water slides.
Located near the rec center is the Farmer's Market that runs from late spring until early fall. Vendors sell fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, jams and preserves, cut flowers, plants, and crafts. The city of Coralville also offers "Music in the Park" every Thursday night from June until early August.
Coralville has so much to offer and continues to improve in every way, it is no wonder that this community has become such a popular place to live!
